About
My love of storytelling is a direct result of my love of reading. Even as a boy I read all the time, every day. My tastes developed a range as wide as the field of literature. From contemporary to speculative fiction to fantasy and the surreal, I’ve devoured it all and loved every second. Literature and reading followed me, like an addiction, into university and post-graduate work, where I completed an intertextual dialogue between the Homeric epic and the science fiction text (DUNE being the main focus of my study alongside Homer). And along the way, I began scribbling…
I discovered that too much study of literature can deaden one’s appreciation for the form. Or at least I felt that was happening to me. I really enjoyed trying to tell my own stories, so after my post-graduate studies came to an end, I began pushing myself to create something for publication. Not long after moving to the south coast of England to marry my lovely wife, I sold my first story to Paul Brazier for the anthology, The West Pier Gazette and Other Stories (Three Legged Fox Books, 2008). Not only was I paid a professional rate, but the idea of being in an anthology with so many well-known and respected names really floored me. I was hooked!
I have since sold work to Jupiter, Estronomicon, Neon Literary Journal, the anthology Rocket Science (Mutation Press, 2012) and the Megapack sci-fi series from Wildside Press. Another highlight was hearing a story of mine podcast by Variant Frequencies, who did a great job on my story, “Mother Tongue”. Alas, the company are no more, but the site is still there and the downloads still available.
I have also recieved an Honorable Mention from the Writers of the Future Award twice running (2011 and 2012).
My loved of fiction also led me to found Immersion Press–a small press dedicated to bringing out limited edition books from new and established authors.
So, what’s next? Now that’s a story still being written…
