Cloud Permutations

Lavie Tidhar’s “Cloud Permutations” is an exotic journey through a South Pacific-type world. Kai’s journey to understand himself and his place in the world of Heven is engaging. The best part is Lavie’s approach to the narrative.

Via the narrator, Lavie manages to create the feeling of the oral tradition that is indicative of the many cultures of the Pacific.  Although it may feel slightly weird at first–being so used to reading Western narrative styles– the story feels authetic in that regard and thus succeeds.

A fine book and a great read. Highly recommended.
